Dr Devan Mahadavan is an imaging and general cardiologist with a strong research focus in cardiac imaging. He specialises in all forms of cardiac imaging and is active in developing advanced imaging technologies. He also has expertise in structural heart disease, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension and runs a specialised clinic in this area at the Lyell McEwin Hospital.
He graduated in 1997 from Flinders University. He subsequently completed his clinical cardiology training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2005 and then spent three years in the United Kingdom and Brisbane with Professor Thomas Marwick, completing his post-graduate and fellowship training in cardiac imaging which includes all forms of echocardiography, cardiac MRI and cardiac CT.
Since 2009, he has been working as a Staff Specialist Cardiologist and also heading cardiac imaging at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital/Lyell McEwin Hospital. He also works at the Royal Adelaide Hospital as an imaging Cardiologist. In 2015, he was accepted as a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.
He has level 3 accreditation for both echocardiography and cardiac MRI.
He also has extensive experience in CT coronary angiography(CTCA) having started the services in Northern Adelaide Health Services in 2010. He has performed on average of 150 studies yearly since then. He is currently one of only three Cardiologist on the National credentialing committee for CTCA and is also on the board of the Imaging Council of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
His research interests are predominantly in cardiac imaging flowing on from his post-doctoral thesis. He has over 25 publications in peer -reviewed journals, as well as being an invited speaker in national and international meetings in his areas of interest.
He has been part of successful research grant applications to advance the role of artificial intelligence in predicting cardiac events with CT technology.
Dr.Mahadavan endeavours to provide holistic care for his patients, combining the benefits of advanced technology in imaging guiding treatment, whilst highlighting the importance of a healthy, wholesome lifestyle and mindful living. These are the areas that he plans to expand at Windsor Heart providing a unique perspective on the symbiotic relationship of the heart with the mind and body.
